a question of priorities
By: Porter | December 17th, 2008A few weeks ago following Heerenveen’s 6-0 demolition at the hands of Twente, the talk was whether Trond Sollied would be let go or if he would jettison to the Norway position. Since the loss, the club played PSV to a draw and following victories over Willem II and De Graafschap are now in fifth place, tied with PSV and nine points off league leader AZ.
Given this and that the club has no hopes for advancing to the next stage of the UEFA Cup, I am hesitate to say they will go into Fratton Park against Portsmouth completely dedicated towards a victory. This is the precisely the same position as Portsmouth and I expect both sides to use the match to examine their bench depth.
Trond Sollied is likely going to sit Geert Arend Roorda, Bonaventure Kalou and Croatian international Danijel Pranjić for the match with further question marks on Mika Väyrynen, Gerald Sibon as well Roy Beerens who sufferred a very late training injury.
All that aside while Heerenveen has yet to win on English soil, I am hopeful that old fact will be put to rest today.
