Ajax today!

The Eredivisie’s match of the weekend features Heerenveen visiting Ajax with Trond Sollied gunning to maintain the form that has seen his club win three consecutive matches since coming back from the break but more impressive, becoming a tight defensive unit by only allowing a single goal.

For the Ajax, Marco van Basten will be looking to get his club back in the right direction after they lost to Groningen 1-0 last week. Leading up the match, their training focused upon finishing which as been off of late. They will miss Jan Vertonghen who received a red carded last week and both Leonardo and Jeffrey Sarpong will likely be available, although they had a few light training injuries.

Trond Sollied’s unequivocal goal for the match is three points and while he has Mika Väyrynen back from injury there are a number of injury questions. In his first month with the club Viktor Elm has provided an immediate impact as a consistent threat to score but could miss the match along with Croatian international Danijel Pranjić. Both will be decided late but there is absolute confidence in Arnór Smárason, Bonaventure Kalou and Gerald Sibon if they need to step in.

Ultimately this match will be decided by Heerenveen’s ability to defend against Ajax who are eager to regain their form in front of the their fans. A great match waits!
