By: Porter | December 7th, 2008
After a tough three match winless slide, Trond Sollied’s Heerenveen rebounded with 3-1 victory over Willem II. With both sides showing some concern over defending, the match was scoreless until Iceland national Arnar Smárason scooped up a close-range rebound and slotted the ball in just before the half. The home side fought back and leveled the match five minutes past the hour, capitalizing on one of Heerenveen’s few marking errors with Jens Janse’s cross being nodded in by Frank Demouge. Now level, Trond Sollied urge his attack forward and five minutes later Roy Beerens’ cross into the box was headed-in by Christian Grindheim to give Heerenveen the 2-1 lead. Pushing forward to equalize, Willem II was susceptible to the counter and as time was winding down, Mika Väyrynen was in all alone and delivered the ball over advancing ‘keeper Maikel Aerts. In seventh place now with twenty-three points, Heerenveen looks ahead to next weekend when they face De Graafschap, who beat 3-1 Feyenoord at de Kuip.
