Heerenveen snatch a last gasp victory
By: Porter | December 28th, 2008
A daring finish that saw two goals in added time, gave Heerenveen a 3-2 victory over FC Groningen in the final match before the winter break. The win draws Trond Sollied’s even with NAC Breda with twenty-nine points, one behind defending champion PSV in fourth place. The match went to the break with Heerenveen clinging to a one goal lead off Danijel Pranjić’s penalty twelve minutes-in after Groningen goalkeeper Luciano was yellow-carded on pulling Roy Beerens down in the area. However that lead was nullified nine minutes after the break when Gonzalo leveled the match for the home side, Groningen. Arnór Smárason restored the lead for Heerenveen with a close range effort with twelve minutes left in what seemed to be the winning strike. The real excitement was saved for added-time as the home side looked to have stolen a draw as Swedish international Andreas Granqvist scored but Paulo Henrique spoiled the celebration as he headed-in Kristian Bak Nielsen’s effort for the winner shortly thereafter.
