Sparta sends Heerenveen crashing 4-1
By: Porter | December 23rd, 2008
Following a three-match unbeaten string domestically Heerenveen was systematically dismantled by Sparta 4-1 in shocking four goal explosion after the break. While the match lacked offensive opportunity in the first forty-five minutes Trond Sollied’s side was run rough shod with the re-start. At the fifty-first minute Joey Godee’s corner was lashed in by Erik Falkenburg to give Sparta the lead however that quickly was canceled-out two minutes later as Gerald Sibon’s free-kick was twenty-three meters was fortunate to find the back of the net. Heerenveen’s hopes unraveled as Sparta’s second half scoring spree continued with Arne Slot adding the winning goal a minute prior to the hour mark. Rydell Poepon doubling the margin with twenty-one minutes remaining as he headed home a Arne Slot free-kick before Yuri Rose iced the win at the eighty-sixth minute as he capitalized on poor defending of Joshua John’s cross and slotted in the loose ball.
With the loss Heerenveen tumbles to eighth in the table and looks ahead to this Sundays clash against FC Groningen before heading to the winter break.

That hurts…whats up with you guys this year? Very inconsistant. Do you have a lot of injury problems? Do you really miss Sulejmani that much?

You’re right, it is a tough loss however expected in the sense that I do not think the club let up enough against Portsmouth during the week. That is a tough decision but with the scheduling they likely should have made some tactical changes.
Great blog you have btw, you ever get over here for matches? At the end of next month Heerenveen visits Ajax and I’m pretty sure I’ll be going.
